Air West - Press ReleasesAugust
10, 2003 – Air
West announced today that they have acquired another aircraft to their
air charter fleet. They have purchased a second Turbo Commander 690, a
twin engine, turbine powered aircraft to use for their air charter,
airfreight, and “Air Attack” operations. This new aircraft will
allow Air West to expand its fleet to eight aircraft, providing an
additional resource to the Phoenix area charter market. Plans call for
the aircraft to be taken offline for several months while it undergoes a
complete refit of avionics and engine instrumentation. Upon completion,
the new Commander will feature a traffic collision and avoidance system,
ground proximity warning, as well as the latest in GPS technology. The
planned package will be fully integrated into a multi-function display,
disseminating all pertinent information such as weather, air traffic,
terrain, and navigation, on one unit, thereby
increasing situational awareness and, consequently, safety. Plans
call for the new aircraft to be ready by the end of February 2004 in
time for the 2004 forest fire season. Background
