Air West - Press ReleasesOctober
15, 2003 –
Air West announced today the final decision on a new avionics package
for their newly acquired Turbo Commander 690. The aircraft is undergoing
a complete teardown and refit in preparation for the 2004 forest fire
season. The package will feature dual Technisonic
TFM-138 FM radios, three VHF communications radios, a Garmin
CNX-80 GPS/Moving Map/Remote Transponder, as well as the Garmin
MX-20 Multifunction Display (MFD). In addition, the new avionics
will include TCAD
(traffic collision alert device) as well as a Ground Proximity Detection
System. Both systems will be displayed on the MX-20 MFD, giving pilots
and crewmembers one place to focus for terrain and air traffic
information, increasing situational awareness and safety. The project
will begin immediately and will be completed by the end of February
2004. Background
